Around the intersection of the four Schie canals is one of the most sparsely populated areas of Rotterdam, almost 16 square kilometres for about 16,000 inhabitants. In the centre is its historical core which was once an independent municipality. In the neighbourhood’s ‘back garden’ lies the nature reserve Midden-Delfland. A neighbourhood market, the oldest in the city (from 1958), is held every Friday on the corner of Noortwijckstraat and Duyvesteynstraat. The five primary schools mean that it’s also a good area for families.
