A place more authentic Rotterdam than the Oude Noorden is hard to find. It’s a bustling neighbourhood, different on every corner. The Pijnackerplein square with its classical music dome is a cultural hotspot for local musicians, the Brancoplein square on the other hand, is a haven of peace. The origin of the neighbourhood lies with the prison on the Noordsingel. The characteristic winding streets arose despite the urban plan at the end of the 19th century, because landowners themselves developed the area. Today, this result is very much appreciated.
